Belly Fat (also known as stomach fat or abdominal fat is generally the fat stored in the subcutaneous layers of the skin ie the actual layers of soft tissue beneath your visible skin.

In more severe cases, where the fat continues to build it can also cause viceral fat to develope deeper in the body around the organs. It is this Viceral fat that is the real danger as it can 'strangle' the affected organs and cause organ failure.
